My assumption initially was that it would be used for wax weapon coatings at the alchemy retort, but only animal tallow is used for that purpose as far as I can tell. {Skyrim Alchemy and Food Overhaul} does something similar to CACO but not nearly as fleshed out. SAFO is more inspired by requiem style of potions where it doesn't heal you instantly but heals overtime instead. It also adds tons of alchemy ingredients and food recipes and so much more I haven't discovered yet.

Higher quality mortar and pestle makes better potions/poisons and thus levels the skill faster (and you make more money too). The same is obviously true for any Fortify Alchemy enchantments.
