Currently I use 70% henna, 30% cassia, as well as some aloe vera powder to help fight dryness. Pure henna takes about 1-2 hours for dye release and cassia 3-4. This also depends on where and when the henna was harvested, as each region and each plant can give different results. I use hot water from the tap, and vinegar instead of lemon juice.
Henna can take upwards of a month for it to settle into it's permanent color. I've used that brand before and have never had "fading" like that. If you want to try a regular dye over henna, please do a strand test first. There's a good chance that regular dye won't take on top of henna.
