I just started to reload some 45-70 loads for my Henry 45-70 and I used the hogdon sight to look up bullet weight/measurements wich powder to use ect ect . My load is as follows . The .454 Casull had a load of 28.5 gr of H110 for a 300 gr JFP bullet, but showing 44.2K of pressure. The .475 Linebaugh had a loading of 27.0 gr for a 385 gr cast LRNFP at 45.3K pressure. A 420 gr cast LRNFP had 25.0 gr with 36.7K pressure.

The recoil was more than a little "snappy", more like "brisk" and exhilarating to say the least. Velocities and pressures are close to factory as is recoil - 40 grains of IMR3031 will kick a lot harder for little velocity gain. (If you open some brands of factory .45-70 they appear to be loaded with only 15-20 grains of flake or ball powder.
