19570. The 5744 bottle states that it works on 45-70. I use 5744 in my Savage 10ML-II Muzzleloader and it works fine. ( Warning, do not use smokeless powder in any muzzleloader that is not designed to shoot smokeless!) 5744 is also used by 30-30 reloaders that shoot Lead Cast bullets.

H870 by itself in a 45-70 only manages about 900 fps. With 5 grains of 4759 or similar you can get about 1200 fps and a lot less unburnt powder being thrown around. From what I can tell, Benchmarck is a little too slow to get the best velocities from a 405gr bullet. I'm sure it will do really well with the mid-400 grain range. 45-70 Loads. I think Lil Gun is too fast of a burning powder for the 45-70. It is a high pressure powder. If you load it to little you cause a high pressure problem, if you load it to much you cause a high pressure problem. Hodgdon does not even list a load with it. Personally I would not use Lil-gun in my 45-70.In duplicating the cavalry 45/55/405 load for the H&Rs, I've found Tightgroup powder to be the most uniform powder for both ballistic uniformity and accuracy. Looks like the current offering of Leverevolution powder may be too slow burning for the 45/70, which is probably why it's not listed in the Hornady reloading manual (or any other lreloading manual for that matter). RL-7 and H4198 are faster burning powders, which is what the 45/70 requires for proper ignition.
