Actually I figured it out. My character sometimes turns invisible after the attack (I think it might be a wild sorcerer thing?). I was killing the spectator with my character, who became invisible right before cutscene, and the leader drow kept walking right past her since he didn’t see her. Basilisk Oil. The game doesn't have a Stone to Flesh spell, just the other way around. you can hit them and kill them and get their loot directly. B oil is rare and trust me, these guys are not worth a vial of it. You are "supposed" to let the eyeball unpetrify them and then kill it, then they will 'talk' to you, whatever that is worth.
