This was exactly my problem, Briggs and Stratton 19.5hp. Just died during a mowing. The key for me was the high compression clue. Put a new battery in it and it couldn't turn the engine over. Two problems needed correcting before it would start. 1) Exhaust valve rocker arm had 3/8in gap, due to it's mounting stud coming loose and backing out 3/8".
