Can someone explain to me the "SM" serial number prefix on some Colt Series 70 Government model 1911's. What years were these produced. I am looking at one at a local shop and what to know about the serial number sequence with the SM prefix. If no data found, if you still have the factory large plastic bag that wrapped the carbine, look for the date there.
