I have both a Nova and a 500. The 500 is a very stout gun, the stock plastic grips do have a little wobble but the wood upgrade is solid. I do love my Nova though, the only down sides to me are the safely and action release are awkward compared to the 500 and the foregrip on the Nova feels super light weight and cheap.

Super Nova takes 3 1/2" shells, the 590 only goes to 3". The SV has long barrels, the 590 only takes shorter barrels. So if you wanted to hammer long range birds, the SV has the edge. It also has a smoother action. However, the 590 is built like a tank and has a much better safety for left hand use.

The quality and specs of these 2 guns is beyond the Mossberg 500 and a used Remington 870. The barrel on the Mossberg is parkerized while the receiver on the Supernova is encased inside polymer to guard against rust. Both never jam. The Benelli SuperNova is a weird gun that is kind of ugly. Those crazy Italians went and made a polymer receiver shotgun with a polymer pump and stock.
