Note that the Eldritch Scion archetype works in a similar way but casts its spells spontaneously (like a sorcerer or bard) and gets additional spells from Charisma instead of Intelligence. There's 2 types of magus builds: Strength and Dexterity-based.

Alternatively Bloodrager is less complicated than the Magus classes, and does a similar sort of thing. Dex characters are a bit more tanky, Str characters are more damaging. Str characters are easier to build as they don't need a bunch of feats and specific weapons to function. Also depends what difficulty setting you're planning to play on.
