Lenny Hemmerich, vice president of Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers, was on hand to share stories of the ice harvest of days gone by with visitors as they chatted around the fire, sipping hot apple cider. In the days before refrigeration, every small town had its ice house. Residents used the ice to keep food and milk cold.
Bob loved country, western, Bluegrass and Gospel music, and for nearly 70 years of his life, did a lot of singing and guitar playing at church and community events, and at the Pioneer Farmers and other threshing/old-time shows. The Pioneer Farmers event is passionate about preserving the past and creating an appreciation for life of days gone by. Along with many demonstrations and exhibits there will also be concerts, tractor rides, and parades daily.
