My car is currently set up for a sbc. I realize the cost will be about $1,500 - $2,000 more if I go with the 454. I have a list of all the parts I need to convert to a bbc (frame mounts, headers etc...). Both engines will be build to about 450HP, however the 383 will have a little less tq @450. Lower duration cam with more lift and higher CR vs the smelding that uses higher duration lower CR and less valve lift. the smelding may produce a bit more top end power and rev slightly higher.The longer rod gives more duration at tdc and yes you can run higher comp on them if I rember right. yes you have to use special pistons, it allows you to rev higher but I think if any thing it hurts torque.
